This intense rivalry began in 1958. Granted it's a fairly
young rivalry compared to others, but the state of Florida
really didn't become known for it's college football until
the early 1980's. This rivalry is talked about year around
with real Floridians who are nuts about college football.
This rivalry may not be as intense as Auburn vs. Alabama in
the off season but it's always intense and even more so when
college football season has arrived. Families split up and
align with their sides and trash talking and insults
depending on the fans really heats up There is hardly a day
that doesn't go by that I'm going at it with some Nole fan,
especially my relatives who like FSU. The winner of this
game gets bragging rights until next year's game and the
loser has to listen to the trash talking. Some Nole and
Gator fans are civil but some are not. These two schools
absolutely hate each other. If you're a Nole, never drive
through Gainesville with your Nole colors on if the game
isn't taking place there. Gator fans will run you out of
town. I seen it happen in February 1998 when this Nole fan
with his Nole colors all over his car was driving right
through downtown Gainesville. He heard it from every Gator
fan on College Ave! You can throw out the records
and rankings, they don't matter in this game. Every Gator
fan including myself, takes personal pleasure in beating
FSU. It's the game Gators want to win the most over everyone
else including Georgia and Tennessee, despite the fact the
Noles play in a different conference. This rivalry has had
some classics over the years I'll never forget, and two
rematches with one deciding the National Championship game.
This rivalry definitely deserves to be recognized as one of
the best rivalries in college football. Thanks for letting
write in on this rivalry.
Chris.
