Miami's "No Name" Defense
-
During the 1972 Undefeated Season, the No-Name Defense posted 3 shut out.
Compare that with the Vaunted 1976 Steelers Defense [considered the Greatest ever] which had 5 shut outs. Pittsburgh's Steel Curtain Defense couldn't help their efforts entirely. Oakland beat the Steelers in 1976 to advance to Super Bowl XI in which they beat Minn.

The No Namers had a couple shut-outs!

Where did the No-name gets it's name?

Just days before his Dallas Cowboys were to meet the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl VI at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans, coach Tom Landry was asked to assess the Miami defense that had allowed just 174 points during the 1971 regular season. "I can't recall their names," Landry said, "but they are a matter of great concern to us." Thus was born the "No-Name Defense."
